Very attentive audience from all over the stateToday (23.05.2009), I was very honoured indeed when Dr. Zahidi requested me to help him out in accepting the appointment of myself as the Chairman of the Judges Panel for the State Level Nationhood Narration Competition 2009 (Pertandingan Pengisahan Kenegaraan 2009) at the RTM Complex in Jalan Kuala Kedah. For my 63 years of age, it was to be my first experience as a judge in any type of competition whether it is a sports event or otherwise.
There were five teams finalist from the Department of Information Bestari Groups from all over the state. They have gone through a series of elimination process at the district levels. The finalist were: 1. Akrab (Kota Setar) 2. Pustika (Sik) 3. Pejuang Cinta (Kulim) 4. Bestari (Baling) and 5. Sri Kandi (Baling). The winner of the day would represent Kedah State at the National Competition that would be held in Kedah in June.
I was very lucky as my other two panel of judges were very experience in judging various types of competition. There were Mr. Mubarak from the State Education Department and Miss Balkhis from the Archives Department. I really enjoyed my stint as the Chairman as the Judges' decisions were final without any room for appealing.
Although we were given the final say, yet on behalf of the Judge's Panel, we were exuberant because our decision was identical with what the experienced Dato' Abdullah Morad has predicted. We do sincerely hope our Mek Mulong rendition will captivate the National Championship in June.
